The San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG) entered into an agreement with commercial transportation and logistics provider Ryder System, Inc., and other project partners to purchase and deploy approximately 202 heavy-duty natural gas powered trucks. The project includes construction of two public access natural gas refueling stations, three maintenance shop upgrades for NGV repair, and provides both maintenance personnel and customer training.
Funding for the project is provided by the US Department of Energy Clean Cities and California Energy Commission AB118, along with cost-share by Ryder. The SANBAG/Ryder NGV Project will create and sustain more than 400 US jobs, as well as reduce 9.2 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions, reduce 131 tons of NOx, and completely eliminate 2.65 tons of diesel particulate matter emissions from local neighborhoods.
The project partners hope to see this project become a model for additional alternative energy and clean technology deployment projects across the nation. As part of Ryder’s agreement with SANBAG, the Company will also maintain the vehicles at three strategically located maintenance shops in Orange, Rancho Dominguez, and Fontana.
